Do you have to name your homeschool?

Yes, but it does depend on what state you are in, so definitely check out your states rules. But here in NC, you do have to name your homeschool. The good thing is that you don't have to officially register your child as a homeschooler until they are 7. Keep in mind, once you name your homeschool, you can't change it, so make sure it's something that you will like for years to come!

Do you have to do standardized tests? And how often?

Yes, but you won't be able to do this through the virtual public school system such as Connexus Academy or K12. Those systems you do have to do all of the subjects, you can't pick and choose. They are actual virtual public schools (they existed even before covid). You can also homeschool the easier subjects for you to teach, and pay for an online specialized program for subjects like math, or science, etc. These are some good online math programs! CTC Math, Teaching Textbooks, IXL, Time4Learning, ABC Mouse, and Adventure Academy. Most of them offer all of the subjects, except for CTC Math. Those do require a monthly fee, and if you want a free program give Khan Academy a try! This website also offers individual subjects, and it's student paced from grades 3rd-12th. They have videos to go along with the lessons, and questions for comprehension, and tests you can use. I have not used this website before, but I found it in my research. It looks great, and I will definitely keep this in mind if I ever need a virtual subject option. So there are definitely options for homeschooling some subjects, and learning some subjects digitally! Just google "online homeschool programs," and tons more will pop up! Just choose the one that you think will serve you the best. You can purchase a paper copy of the CAT Test from Academic Excellence OR complete the test virtually from this site!
